Description

The site of a probable pre-1834 two-storey farmhouse, located on a slight rise to the east of Belfast Road, approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Downpatrick, was demolished in 1990 and replaced with a new dwelling. The original farmhouse was described in a 1978 survey as a traditional farm dwelling, featuring a slated gabled roof with raised verges and yellow brick chimneys. The exterior included smooth, rendered walls with lined, stepped quoins and a plinth. It had drop-hung sash windows on both the first and ground floors, and a panelled front door with a plain fanlight, all with label mouldings above.

The house likely corresponds to the building shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1834. Valuation records from around 1835-1838 indicate it was newly built and belonged to a Mr. Thomas Richey, receiving a valuation grade of 'A'. The property appears to have remained in the Richey family until the early 20th century. Ordnance Survey maps from 1860, 1901, and 1920, alongside two valuation records from 1863, provide further historical documentation.
