Store at East End of Bank Parade, Newry, Co Down, BT34 1PG

This complex of two contiguous stores is situated between the Newry river and canal, behind the Newry Town Hall. The buildings are of painted random rubble construction and measure approximately 37.4 metres in length, with a trapezoidal plan, the narrow end facing south. The south building has large garage doors on its south wall, while the east and west walls have boarded window openings. A third building, originally with a Belfast truss roof, formerly stood to the north of the existing buildings but was recently destroyed by fire and has subsequently collapsed.

The site was previously occupied by the Newry Salt Works during much of the 19th century. A lime kiln was located where the south building now stands, as shown on the 1861 Ordnance Survey map. The north shed was likely erected in 1873, and the south shed in 1876, according to the Valuation Revision books. Latterly used as a vehicle repair garage, the buildings are now used as a store by Newry & Mourne District Council.

A significant feature of the stores is their Belfast truss roofs. These roofs, along with further details, are documented in reference HB18/08/139. The buildings are of industrial archaeological interest and are located within a conservation area.
