18 Edward Street, Newry, Co Down, BT35 6AN

This is a one-storey building, likely constructed between 1900 and 1919, with a distinctive Belfast truss roof that is its principal feature of architectural interest. The building runs roughly 34.3 metres in length and fronts onto Edward Street with a gable facing south. The curved roof is covered with corrugated metal and corrugated plastic sheets, with modern plastic rainwater goods. The walls are cement rendered over random granite rubble, rising to a stepped parapet along the street frontage. A large vehicle entrance is located on the left side of the elevation, alongside a smaller modern door on the right.

A building was present on this site in the 19th century, but the current structure first appears in the 1911 Valuation Revision book. It was then recorded as a ‘shed’ belonging to John McArevey, a cabinet maker and furniture remover, and it may have been used for furniture storage.
