Description

This building, formerly a mid-19th century house, stood at 22 Edward Street, Newry, as part of a pair. It was demolished and replaced by a modern shop. Dating from between 1840 and 1859, the three-storey, three-bay house had a pitched roof covered with natural slate and a chimney shared with the adjacent building. The walls were lined and rendered. The recessed entrance was framed by an elliptical arched opening on the ground floor, above which was a fanlight with radial glazing bars and sidelights. To the right of the entrance were two sliding sash windows with one pane to each sash. The upper floors each contained three similar windows, irregularly spaced and slightly reduced in height on the second floor. The building was located within the Lisdrumgullion townland and lay within a conservation area. Records from the Historic Monuments and Marine Policy Branch (HMMB) document the building’s appearance, with survey slides and cards dated 6th November 1969.
