Description

The remains of mid-19th century lime kilns and associated buildings are located on the west side of Munie Road, less than half a mile southwest of Glenarm. The site, which is currently used for rural industry, is largely overgrown by trees and shrubs. Originally, there were likely four lime kilns, but due to the dense vegetation, only one is clearly visible; this kiln is positioned at the northern end of the site, with other structures to the south obscured by greenery. The kiln itself is constructed of limestone rubble, built into the hillside, and features a large segmental arched opening to the east, incorporating receding arches. To the east of the kiln(s), backing onto the roadside, are the limestone rubble back and side walls of a mono-pitched roof house and outbuildings.

The quarry area where the kilns are situated was shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1832, which depicts only one kiln. This area is believed to be one of the "several quarries" noted in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of 1830. Subsequent maps of 1857 indicate an additional kiln and house, while a 1903 map displays three kilns. A lease from 1859, referencing lime kilns near Glenarm, describes a different location adjacent to a quarry east of the village. The structures are recorded as derelict and possess industrial archaeological interest.
