Glebe House, Ballymena Road, Larne, Co Antrim

Glebe House is a two-storey house dating from the early 19th century (1800-1819). Originally built as a rectory, it retains some original features, though its original architectural character has been significantly compromised by later alterations and additions. The house has an asymmetrical plan and is constructed with dry-dash walls of stone chippings, topped by a roof of Bangor blue slates laid in regular courses. A single-storey, curved porch projects from the front, featuring two Gothic arched windows; one window retains its original timber sliding sash, vertically hung, with a 1 over 1 glazing pattern and horns, while other windows have been replaced with modern small-paned top-hung and fixed lights, or plate glass. A modern conservatory made of PVC has been added to the south end of the building. The house stands in a rural setting, situated with its back facing a dual carriageway, and features a spacious, sloping garden to the front. The house appeared on an Ordnance Survey map of 1832 marked as 'Glebe,' and in an enlarged form on a map of 1857, labelled ‘Kilwaughter Rectory.’
