Description
McKillops Bridge is an 18th century stone bridge located on Brustin Brae Road, Ballytober, near Larne, County Antrim. It is an unspoilt example of vernacular construction set in a rural location.
The bridge is built from rubble and boulder masonry, featuring two segmental arches which carry a road over a small stream. Each arch has a central cut-water, and the parapets have rough-cut stone copings that rise slightly towards the centre of the span. The bridge appears on the first Ordnance Survey map of 1833 and was originally built to carry the old road between Larne and Carncastle.
According to documentary sources, the bridge was likely constructed between 1780 and 1799. It is of industrial archaeological interest and stands in open countryside, surrounded by trees and bushes.
