Old Mill at Millvale, Ballygalley, Larne, Co Antrim

The Old Mill at Millvale, in Ballygalley, is an eighteenth-century industrial building, likely constructed between 1780 and 1799. It is a rectangular rubble stone structure whose original character has been impacted by later alterations. The building is situated next to the bridge (HB06/03/018) within a small hamlet in a rural setting, one gable overlooking a stream and the main elevation facing the road.

The gable overlooking the stream features a semi-circular bellcote at its apex. Below it is a flat-arched window that has been blocked with stone. The gable facing away from the stream is topped with a chimney and has three blocked windows, along with a large doorway with a concrete beam cut into the ground level. Three modern windows are visible on the road-facing elevation. The blocked-up openings throughout the building demonstrate the effects of numerous changes over time.

The building appears on the first Ordnance Survey map of 1833 and is of industrial archaeological interest. It is currently used as outbuildings, and was formerly a mill.
