Bridge at Cairncastle Road, Ballygalley, Larne, Co Antrim

This is a late Georgian engineered bridge located on Cairncastle Road, Ballygalley, near Larne in County Antrim. Its construction date is thought to be between 1820 and 1839, and it first appears on the 1833 Ordnance Survey map of County Antrim. The bridge is built of basalt rubble, with tooled sandstone voussoirs forming the semi-circular arch. It carries the main road over a stream and contributes to the setting of the nearby Ballygally Castle tower house. The north face of the bridge remains largely unspoiled and forms part of the boundary to the grounds of Ballygally Castle, providing views from within those grounds. The structure has industrial archaeological interest.
