Fountain, Opposite junction of Carncastle and Coast Roads, Ballygalley, Larne, Co. Antrim

This is a roadside water fountain dating from 1920 to 1939. It is a good example of its type, situated in a prominent position opposite the junction of Carncastle and Coast Roads in Ballygalley, near Larne, County Antrim. The fountain features a plain, shaped, fluted column topped with a fluted cap and an acorn finial. Inscribed "Glenfield" is visible at the base of the column. It possesses group value, complementing the other listed fountains in Ballygalley. The fountain was not depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1903 or 1930. Further details are recorded in the Environment Heritage Service report ‘Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey’ by Fred Hammond (January 1997), referenced as Pump no. 52. The fountain is of local interest and demonstrates social, cultural, and economic importance. It also exhibits characteristics of industrial archaeological interest, demonstrating good style, pleasing proportions, and noteworthy ornamentation, all contributing to its setting. The property is owned by the local government.
