Description

North Lodge to Red Hall is a modest, one-and-a-half-story, three-bay gabled house, likely dating from between 1880 and 1899 and built as a gate lodge to the Red Hall estate. It was first shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1902 and was not present on a map of 1858. The exterior walls are dry-dashed with blackstone chippings. The windows are timber sliding sash windows with a 1 over 1 glazing pattern and horns, set within segmental heads. The roof is slated but covered with bitumen. A smooth, cement-rendered chimney exists, and a turned wooden finial is present on the gable of the porch and the left-hand gable of the house, however, it is missing from the right-hand gable. The rainwater goods are made of PVC. A low, rear extension features modern, rectangular timber casement windows.

The gateway consists of a pair of large, square piers constructed of greystone rubble in courses with brick dressings; they have rough greystone copings. The top of the right-hand pier has been knocked off and lies on the ground. Screen walls of greystone rubble flank each pier, without gates. The lodge stands within a rear entrance gateway to Red Hall, situated on a lawn to the front with agricultural land to the rear.
