Description
This is a simple two-storey gabled house, built around 1875. It is located on the west side of Straidkilly Road, just north of the village of Glenarm. The original section of the house has a symmetrical east-facing front elevation. A single-storey, flat-roofed extension has been added to the north gable, and modern window frames and a door are present.
The front door is centrally located on the ground floor and is modern, partly glazed, and partly panelled. There are modern, timber top-opening windows to the left and right of the door, with three similar windows above on the first floor. A single-storey, flat-roofed extension is located to the far right (north) of the front elevation, featuring a large, modern timber window. To the left (south) is a smaller, single-storey gabled outbuilding with a double door opening on its left side.
The lower portion of the south gable is hidden by the outbuilding, while the upper section is blank. Similarly, the lower section of the north gable is concealed by the flat-roofed extension with a blank gable above. The rear elevation features two windows on both the ground and first floors, positioned centrally with a modern conservatory and a small, flat-roofed porch to the left (rear of the flat-roofed extension) and the blank western face of the outbuilding on the right.
The house is rendered with roughcast. The main roof is covered in natural slate, with a slight overhang on the gables. The east-facing roof of the outbuilding is also slated, while the west-facing roof is covered with corrugated asbestos sheeting, a modern PVC product. Rendered chimneystacks are present on each gable of the main house section.
The house does not appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1858, but is shown on the 1903 map. According to the owner, the house was likely built between 1875 and 1876.
