Description

A detached three-bay two-storey stone farmhouse, built around 1850, located on the south side of Glenmacoffer Road, Omagh. The building represents a transition between vernacular and formal design, with a simple rectangular plan and a symmetrical principal elevation facing north-east, though the rear elevation is largely blank.

The walling is coursed random rubble with dressed quoins. The pitched natural slate roof (of which only remains survive) is supported on rendered chimneystack and dressed stone eaves corbels. Windows are square-headed painted timber 6/6 sliding sashes with sills. The principal north-east elevation is symmetrical, with a lean-to windbreaker porch abutted to the centre; the exposed sections have a single window in each bay. The porch is missing its doors and has blank cheeks. A bed outshot projects from the rear south-west elevation, with a single window opening to its left at ground floor level and blank walling at first floor. The south-east gable is abutted by an outbuilding, with the exposed section remaining blank. The north-west gable is abutted by a collapsed outbuilding; the exposed section is blank except for a pitched ghostmark showing the roof line of the former structure.

The farmhouse sits on gently sloping ground within an enclosed grassy farmyard with modern gates and posts. An adjacent single-storey outbuilding to the south has a pitched corrugated metal roof and blank gable. A double-height outbuilding to the north features a pitched corrugated metal roof, rendered walling, and blank gable, with a single square-headed entrance opening (door missing) in each cheek at centre.

The building first appears on the second edition Ordnance Survey map of 1854 alongside a smaller building to the north, now gone. By the third edition (1905–6), a large outbuilding had been constructed to the north. By the fourth edition (1953), both the house and the outbuilding had been extended, the house to the east and the outbuilding to the west. In Griffith's Valuation (1856–64), both buildings then present are listed as dwellings valued at 10 shillings each, occupied by the McCullagh family and leased from Major A W C Hamilton. In subsequent revisions of 1872, the buildings were valued as a single house and offices at £2 5 shillings, rising to £2 15 shillings in 1875 indicating some improvements. Atty McCullagh became owner in fee in 1909.

The building is recorded as derelict and currently lacks sufficient fabric to merit listing, with other better examples of this farmhouse type already listed.
