Description

This is a detached, two-bay, two-storey stone house built around 1850 on the west side of Glenmacoffer Road, Omagh. The house is rectangular and faces north. A lean-to windbreaker porch is situated at the front. The roof is of natural slate, with blue/black clay angled ridge tiles, and rendered chimneystacks are present at the gables; there are no rainwater goods. The walls are of coursed random rubble stone with traces of lime render. The windows are square-headed timber 2/2 sliding sashes, with first-floor windows being 1/1 sliding sashes.

The principal, north-facing elevation is symmetrical, with the windbreaker porch centrally positioned. The exposed sections are lime-rendered and have a single window on each floor at each end, flanking the porch. The east gable is blank, while the rear, south-facing, elevation has a variety of windows. The west gable is also blank. A single-cell, double-height stone granary with a pitched roof is located nearby.

The house first appears on the second edition Ordnance Survey map of 1854. By 1906, it had been extended to the west, and an outbuilding had been added to the north. Griffith’s Valuation of 1856-64 lists the house as occupied by Thomas McKee and leased from Major A W C Hamilton, with a valuation of £1. The McKee family remained the occupants throughout the period covered by the Annual Revision Records (1860-1929), and Hugh McKee became the fee owner in 1909. The house is situated on sloping grassy ground off a rural access road, surrounded by scattered mature trees. It is currently recorded as derelict.
