Description
A detached three-bay two-storey rendered farmhouse, built around 1850–1860, located on the east side of Drumlea Road near Omagh. The building is rectangular on plan, facing south, with fine proportions and retains some original detailing, though it represents a relatively common type of traditional rural dwelling rather than an exceptional example.
The pitched roof is covered in natural slate with blue and black clay angled ridge tiles. Red brick chimneystacks are positioned at the gables, and remnants of half-round cast-iron gutters survive. The walling is lime-washed roughcast, partially exposing coursed random rubble basalt with squared and dressed quoins beneath.
Windows are square-headed painted timber 6/6 sliding sashes with rendered reveals and stone sills. On the principal south elevation, a square-headed painted timber door with vertically sheeted finish is positioned centrally, with a three-light overlight above. The left bay contains a single window to each floor. The right bay's ground floor window is missing, while first floor windows elsewhere have been widened to 2/2 sheet glass. The west gable is blank and is abutted by a lean-to shed. The rear north elevation shows a variety of windows and a blocked off-centre door. The east gable is also blank, similarly abutted by a lean-to shed.
The farmhouse stands on sloping ground within a farmyard complex situated to the southeast of a T-junction. Attached to the farmhouse gables are lean-to stone sheds with corrugated metal roofs. To the west are a range of outbuildings, including a multi-bay two-storey structure with an attached single-cell store, both featuring pitched natural slate roofs, coursed random rubble basalt with squared quoins, and square-headed timber half-doors. A single-cell pitched corrugated metal store stands to the west of the extension gable.
Historical evidence indicates a building has occupied the site since at least 1833, though it is unclear whether this is the present house; stylistically it appears to date from around 1850. An outbuilding to the west appears to have survived since 1833, with further outbuildings evident by 1906, some of which remain. Griffith's Valuation of 1858 records the property as a house, offices and land occupied by Samuel Moffit and leased from Major A.W.C. Hamilton, valued at £1 5 shillings.
