Poundburn Bridge, Baronscourt, Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone

The Poundburn Bridge is a former single-span rubble stone bridge located within dense woodland at the southern edge of the Baronscourt demesne in Newtownstewart, County Tyrone. Constructed approximately between 1820 and 1839, it originally spanned a fast-flowing stream known as Pound Burn. The bridge has undergone significant rebuilding, now featuring modern rubble stone parapets that bound a dirt road and bridge a concrete pipe carrying the stream. It was shown on the 1833 Ordnance Survey map, but was not captioned. No correspondence relating to the bridge was found within the Abercorn estate records. The bridge’s recent rebuilding means little of its original historic fabric remains, although it possesses some industrial archaeological interest. It was previously listed, but was delisted on July 25, 2011.
