Castle Lecky, Craig, Magilligan, Limavady, Co Londonderry

Castle Lecky was a large Georgian farmhouse built between 1800 and 1819 in the Craig townland, near Magilligan, Limavady, County Londonderry. The house, initially six bays wide and two stories high, was rendered and featured Georgian sash windows, and a panelled front door surmounted by a rectangular fanlight with pointed astragals. It was shown on a map from 1831 but was significantly expanded between 1856 and 1906. According to the Ordnance Survey Memoirs, it served as the residence of Mrs Lecky. The house was described as derelict during a visit by the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society in the late 1960s, and was demolished approximately five years ago. Only outbuildings and entrance gates remain, with the outbuildings now in a ruinous condition, exhibiting rubble basalt walls and brick window trims. The entrance gates are set within a curved recess of basalt, flanked by basalt gate piers with copings topped with balls. Fragments of a plaque, formerly over the main entrance door, are now located at the back door of a nearby bungalow, the lettering being badly eroded.
