Limavady Grammar School, 3 Ballyquin Road, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 9ET

The Limavady Grammar School is a three-story building constructed between 1940 and 1959, and opened in 1957. Designed by Noel Campbell in 1955 with renovations later undertaken by Albert Wallace architects, it is located at 3 Ballyquin Road, Limavady. The main portion of the school consists of three red brick gables facing Irish Green Street, with white rendered side walls. The building features segmental head windows and an entrance canopy of a style reminiscent of the Festival of Britain, supported by thin, angling metal poles. Lower buildings of yellow/orange brick surround the school, incorporating some details from the original design, although with less refinement. A contemporary extension is located to the south east, matching the height of the original building. References to the school can be found in Historic Buildings Records, David Evans’ An Introduction to Modern Ulster Architecture (Ulster Architectural Heritage Society, p. 76), and in the Belfast News Letter of 4 October 1957 (p. 8). The building is currently in use as a school and is owned by the Education Board. It is not considered an outstanding example of post-war school design.
