Description

Minearny Base Tower is a circular tower constructed between 1820 and 1839 as part of the first Ordnance Survey of Ireland, under the direction of Lt. Colby. It served as a crucial point for triangulation measurements, working in conjunction with similar towers located at HB02/09/014 and HB02/10/012. The tower is enclosed by a low, roughly circular basalt wall, approximately 6.00 metres in diameter, topped with sandstone coping stones. A metre-high, white-painted cast iron railing sits atop the wall. The tower is of industrial archaeological interest and holds social, cultural, economic, rarity, authorship, and Northern Ireland/international significance.
