Description
A folly tower, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839, stands within the Racecourse Plantation near the back entrance drive to Bellarena House. The tower, recorded on a map from 1831 and noted in Girvan's "Buildings of North Derry," is situated in a field that was formerly used as a racecourse and overlooks the area. It is a three-story circular structure with curving steps leading to a first-floor entrance. Four arched openings are positioned around the tower, each topped with a blind oculus. The tower is built of red brick with plain stringcourses at each stage, and simple corbels are positioned below the string course above the arched openings. The folly is currently derelict.
