Gate Lodge, 440 Drumrane Road, Dungiven, Co Londonderry, BT47 4PH

The gate lodge, likely dating from between 1780 and 1799, is a ruinous structure situated approximately ten metres behind the boundary fence, perpendicular to Drumrane Road. The cast iron entrance gates at the roadside feature curving flanking balusters set on a low rendered wall. The gate posts are topped by finials, and the gates have a sweeping top rail with fleur-de-lis decoration to the vertical sections, along with a lower section of arrowheads and a cross scrap design. These gates are probably of the later 19th century.

The gate lodge itself is roofless and derelict, with only the shell of the building remaining. The east-facing façade, which faces the road, is lime washed and reveals underlying ashlar stonework. Brickwork is visible on the north-facing façade, which runs along the entrance drive. An entrance is located in the northeast corner. Two windows are visible facing the drive, and a single, smaller window faces the road. Most window frames have been lost, though stone cills are still present. The brickwork facades extend to the other two elevations, with no windows on the rear elevation, apart from a single small window on the south side. There is no external decoration to the door or windows.

The lodge is shown on Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1832, revised in 1856. Historical records include the Griffiths Valuation of 1858. The lodge is located in the townland of Ballyguddin and is currently used as gates and screens and is in private ownership. It is recorded as derelict.
