Description

The building at 5 Bayview Road, Ballycastle, was originally a two-storey, three-bay house constructed between 1840 and 1859. It was probably built by a builder named Humphries, who also built numbers 2, 3, and 4 Bayview Road. The original house was recorded in a survey from 1971, which described it as having a rendered façade, roughcast sides and rear, and a slated roof with variegated chimney stacks and decorated bargeboards. The entrance featured a panelled door and a plain segmental fanlight, flanked by a pair of plain sash windows with segmental heads. Upper windows had square heads with a vertical division. A hipped-roof glass veranda was supported by four slim cast iron columns. The rear was low, with a wooden porch on the side. This building has since been demolished and replaced with a house built in the 1980s, which has little architectural merit.
