Fish Store, Bayview Road, Ballycastle, Co Antrim

This is a vernacular fish store dating to the middle of the second half of the 19th century, located on Bayview Road, Ballycastle, County Antrim. It served as a store and sales outlet for fishermen.

The building is a small, single-story rectangular structure. The gable facing Bayview Road features a central segmented arch gateway. The long walls each contain two vertical shuttered openings. The rear gable has two small shuttered windows, likely lighting a loft. All walls are smooth and rendered, with a natural slate roof and a small chimney stack on the apex of the rear gable. The fish store is situated on the harbourside of Bayview Road, overlooking a new slipway.

Likely constructed around 1870 or later, it originally functioned as a store and sales point for fish. A new fish shop has been built adjacent to the modern pier. The building is known locally as John Morton’s fish house. Historical records include Ordnance Survey maps from 1832 (revised 1856) and 1904. The building sits within a conservation area.
