Description

This is a well-preserved cow-tailed pump situated within the farmyard of Leslie Hill Farm in the townland of Ballypatrick, near Ballymoney, County Antrim. It retains its original location and possesses group value due to its association with the adjacent listed house and outbuildings.

The pump features a closed head lever and a plain, spirally decorated column. It is topped with a fluted cap and an acorn finial, and is inscribed "R Jamison & Son Ballymoney" (plumber) around the upper section.

A pump is depicted on an Ordnance Survey map from 1921 (reference PRONI Ref OS 10/1/17/5/2), but is absent from the 1904 edition. Further details are documented in the Environment Heritage Service (EHS) report 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey' by Fred Hammond, published in January 1997, under reference Pump no 46.

The pump is understood to have been constructed between 1900 and 1919, and holds interest due to its style, proportions, ornamentation, setting, and group value. It is also of local historical interest and possesses notable characteristics of industrial archaeological interest.
