Former School Adj. St Cadan’s Church, Duncrun Road, Magilligan, Limavady, Co Londonderry

This is a small, rural church school dating to the mid-19th century, constructed in a Tudoresque style and considered worthy of record. The red brick building is four bays long and has a natural slate roof. There are small porches at each gable, with square-headed hood mouldings above the front and rear windows. The brickwork is laid in a garden wall bond, with neat brick kneelers beneath each barge. The decorative bargeboards on the main roof and porch roof feature flowing curves, and a small oculus is positioned just below the apex of the barge. Each porch gable contains a slender, round-headed window. A single chimney stack with a decorative pot is present.

Inside, the building contains a simple space.

The school was likely built around 1840 and was probably supported by the rector, as recorded in Lewis's Topographical Dictionary, which mentions Kildare Place Society schools and a school under the Board of National Education in the parish. It does not appear on the 1831 map, and pre-dates 1854 according to D Girvan. Griffiths Valuation (1858) references school and church education societies, a schoolhouse, and a playground. The building is currently used as a school and is owned by the Church of Ireland. It has been recorded as derelict.
