72 Duncrun Road, Bellarena, Limavady, Co Londonderry

This was a former two-room thatched house, constructed between 1840 and 1859, which once enjoyed a prominent view over Magilligan. The house possessed harled and whitewashed walls and a sheeted door topped by a flat brick arch. It was situated northwest of and below Duncrun Road. The house was not present on maps dating to 1830, but it does appear on the 1856 map. It was occupied by Mr Robert Butcher in 1970, but subsequently fell into disrepair following his death. The thatched roof collapsed, and the building stood as a ruin until its demolition in early 1997, leaving behind ground foundations approximately 300mm below ground level. A nearby three-room thatched house with a tiled roof remains in good condition, and a third similar house further northeast was relocated to the Ulster Folk Museum as Clyde Cottage.
