Description

Single-storey/ two-bay direct-entry vernacular house, N facing on the S side of Loughbrickland Road. Roof has natural slate to front pitch and artificial slate to rear. Half-round metal rainwater goods and coped brick chimney to each gable; right one with television mast. Walls of random granite rubble, heavily cement pointed, with stepped brick dressings and heads. Projecting brick eaves course. Principle elevation faces E to road. Symmetrical façade with entrance to centre. A plain modern door with glazed panel to top; a plain transom over. Enclosed by glazed and timber open porch, with monopitched corrugated plastic roof with plastic rainwater goods. Single window opening to either side on main block. Each has a 2/2 vertically divided sash window with horns and painted granite cill. Left gable is blank. On the rear elevation the left bay is abutted by monopitched annex. The right bay is abutted by a gabled return. The exposed section of main block to extreme left is cement rendered. Annex has monopitched corrugated metal roof and smooth cement rendered walls with plastic rainwater goods. Left cheek has modern casement window, a modern timber casement with concrete cill. The west face has 1/1 top hung timber window and concrete cill. The right cheek abuts return. Return has pitched artificial slate roof, smooth lined cement walls. Left cheek is abutted by annex. Rear (W facing gable) abutted by lower shed. Right cheek of return has single casement window with concrete cill. The shed has monopitched corrugated metal roof and walls. Entrance on right cheek with fixed two pane window to left. Small annex on W face contains toilet; cistern is painted pink and inscribed “ Magic ‘C’/ A. Sheills & Co Ltd/ Newry” with small tap logo. Right gable of main block is blank and smooth cement rendered. Small garden to front, sloping to roadside hedge. Concrete path and four steps lead to entrance door.
