Description

This water pump, dating from between 1920 and 1939, stands on the south side of Scarva Street, at the end of Bronte Park, outside the Scarva Street Surgery in Loughbrickland, Banbridge, County Down. While damaged and incomplete, the pump retains some original features. It is a closed head lever pump with a plain, spirally decorated column and a plain steel cap, which may be a replacement. The spout is broken, and a replacement handle has been welded to the remains of the original. The pump was not shown on the 1918 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map (PRONI Ref OS 6/3/33/4), and further details can be found in Fred Hammond’s 1997 report, 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland : A Preliminary Survey', under pump number 41. It is considered to have industrial archaeological interest.
