Pump, Outside Reformed Presbyterian Church, Dublin Road, Loughbrickland, Banbridge, Co. Down

This is a cow-tailed water pump dating from between 1900 and 1919, located in a prominent roadside position outside the Reformed Presbyterian Church on Dublin Road, Loughbrickland, Banbridge, County Down. It is a good example of this type of pump and has group value with other water pumps in the area.

The pump is of a closed-head lever type, featuring a plain, spirally decorated column. It has a plain cap, although this may be a replacement, bearing the inscription 'standard' on top. The lid of the adjoining well is inscribed 'Banbridge Foundry.' The pump is set on the roadside and is flanked by two small, octagonal granite posts.

The pump is depicted on the 1918 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map (reference PRONI Ref OS 6/3/34/4), and further details can be found in Fred Hammond’s 1997 report, 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey', pump number 64.
