Manse, 45 Scarva Street, Loughbrickland, Banbridge, Co Down, BT32 3NH

This is a late 20th-century suburban manse that replaced an earlier two-storey, gabled house, the remains of which have been demolished. The earlier house, as documented in the First Survey card, had harled walls and a slated roof with parapet gables. The lower courses of slates were larger than the remainder of the roof, which was noted as being in very poor condition. Large brick chimney stacks rose from each gable. The recessed entrance was framed by a semi-circular stone opening with radial gauged brickwork in the fanlight above. It was flanked by a narrow window on each side and a doorway with gauged brickwork in the main wall. The upper storey had three double-hung windows with sashes divided vertically into three panes. The building was noted as being somewhat run down at the time of the survey. Carved granite gate piers with iron railings were also present. The earlier house appeared on an Ordnance Survey map from 1833.
