The site represents the former location of a single-story thatched cottage, likely dating from before 1834. Situated on the south side of Ballydorn Road, approximately two miles northeast of Killinchy, the cottage was demolished sometime after January 1974. The site is marked on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1859-60. The original valuation records from around 1835 do not identify the owner, but subsequent records from approximately 1861 indicate the property comprised two dwellings – possibly single rooms – owned by a Hamilton Patton and leased to James Orr and James Maxwell. The cottage originally had a thatched roof, roughcast chimneys, and rendered, white-painted walls. The north front featured two casement windows with horizontal astragals and a central, sheeted door, with the right-hand window set in a 6-inch deep recess. References to the building’s condition in the first survey record it as “poorish,” and note it was approximately 35 feet wide.
