Description

This small cemetery is situated just north of Millisle, County Down, and dates primarily from 1848, with the oldest headstones from that period. It is located on the coast, alongside the Millisle Road, and measures approximately 60 meters by 23 meters. A low rubble wall surrounds the plot, with the eastern side bordering the shore being significantly overgrown. The Millisle Road is positioned at a higher level relative to the cemetery.

Historically, the cemetery served as the graveyard for a now-demolished “Anti-Burgher” or “Secession” Presbyterian church, which was built in 1773. This church was described in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of circa 1834 as a small, simple gabled building, measuring roughly 50 feet by 27 feet and accommodating around 100 people. The congregation was united with that of Millisle in 1906, and no remains of the church building are visible today. The cemetery is shown on Ordnance Survey Maps from 1858-60. The headstones are largely unremarkable.
