Description
This is a small, plain gabled Church of Ireland church, likely built around 1955. It stands on the west side of Main Street in Ballymacruise, Millisle. The building has a simple, functional appearance, and its design lacks refinement. The church is rectangular with a gabled, pitched roof covered in corrugated asbestos and is constructed of brick, painted white.
The north gable features a central entrance consisting of a plain, timber-sheeted double door set within a slight recess and topped with a semicircular arch. A bell is positioned above the doorway. A small, projecting extension, resembling a boiler house, is attached to the far left of the west facade, with its north facade aligned with the north gable. A long, modern PVC window with toughened plastic glass is located to the left of this extension, while a smaller, taller PVC window with similar glazing is on the far right. The south gable incorporates a gabled projection housing the altar area, with a semicircular arch-headed window containing stained glass depicting a religious scene; this glass is believed to be older than the church itself. A timber-sheeted door, reached by four steps, is situated immediately to the right of this projection. A flat-roofed section is attached to the west side of the projection, and its west facade aligns with the west facade of the main building. The east elevation has a long central window, flanked by smaller windows on either side, mirroring the window arrangement on the west elevation. Cast iron rainwater goods are present. The church is surrounded by a car park to the east and a developing area of ground to the west.
