Description

Large, prominent, tomb in the form of a miniature Greek (decorated) Doric temple. The ‘temple’ is constructed in Scrabo sandstone and is situated in the north of the present cemetery, near the ruins of Movilla Abbey. The pediments and eaves are decorated with acroteria and there is a carved wreath with date (1860) in the tympanum of each pediment. The stone work on the tympanum to the N elevation is damaged. The ceiling and upper inner walls act as carved ‘headstones’ relating to various members of the Corry family. Propped against columns on the ‘inner’ W side of the structure is a 1708 headstone of John Corry.
