Description

The site represents the location of a small, single-story house, likely dating from before 1834, which was demolished sometime after 1972. A modern housing estate now occupies the site and surrounds it on all sides. Situated on the north side of Movilla Road, on the eastern outskirts of Newtownards, the cottage originally featured a slated roof and rendered gable ends. The walls and chimneys were roughcast, and the building had three horizontally-divided sash windows with astragals. The doorway, positioned between the second and third windows, was distinguished by a projecting, plain surround and moulding above the lintel, with the door itself being panelled. Adjacent outbuildings were originally located at the rear. The site was marked on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1858-60. The house was likely demolished around 1990. Valuation records from approximately 1836 do not mention a building on this site, suggesting it was below rateable value if it existed as a dwelling.
