Description

This is a two-story house likely dating to the mid-19th century, with Victorian decorative details having been removed from the front facade. The house is situated on Cloughy Road, just south of Portavogie, overlooking the shore.

The eastern facade features a centrally positioned timber-glazed front door, with a two-pane PVC window to the right, a single pane to the left, and a further two panes on the single-story extension to the left. Three similar windows are present on the first floor of the main house. All windows have smooth cement surrounds. The north gable of the main house has a window matching the ground-floor left-hand side and a first-floor right-hand side window, with a single window to the side of the return. The south gable of both the main house and extension are blank. The south side of the return has a modern two-pane window on the left and two plain timber sheeted doors on the right. The west gable, which forms the rear of the main house, has three windows similar in style to those on the front on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. One first-floor window is partially obscured by the ridge of the return roof. The rear of the extension features a plain timber sheeted door on the left and a large modern two-pane PVC window on the right. The roofs are pitched and gabled, with asbestos-free slates on the main house, Bangor blue slates on the return, and asbestos slates on the extension. Two yellow brick chimney stacks are present on the main house, and one rendered stack is on the return. There are PVC gutters and downspouts throughout. The exterior finish is limestone chip render, with smooth cement render to the wall edges and base. A low rendered rubble wall runs along the front of the property.

The house is shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1860, but these earlier depictions do not show the return or extension. When first surveyed in 1971, the window and door details suggested a date around the 1860s.
