Description
This is a two-storey farmhouse, likely dating to the mid to later 19th century, situated at the end of a farm track off Main Road, on the north-west side of Portavogie. The house has been recently renovated and is well-maintained, although it presents a somewhat modern and clinical appearance with limited visual indication of its age.
The front facade features a centrally positioned PVC front door with plain sidelights and three steps. To the right of the door is a two-pane PVC window with simulated astragal bars, creating the appearance of vertical and horizontal divisions in the upper, top-hung portion of the window. There are two further windows of the same design to the right, and a matching arrangement of windows on the first floor. The east gable has two first-floor windows, similar in design to those on the front, but slightly smaller, along with a larger PVC kitchen window on the ground floor. The west gable mirrors the east gable with two first-floor windows, but the window to the left lacks the simulated astragal bars. A small, flat-roofed extension is attached to the far left of ground floor. The rear elevation presents four first-floor windows matching the front, alongside two PVC-glazed back doors on the ground floor, separated by a window similar to those seen elsewhere. A small lean-to boiler house extension is located to the left of centre on the rear.
The exterior is finished with a limestone chip render and a smooth cement base, which frames the windows and doors. The roof is pitched and covered in asbestos-free slates. PVC gutters, downspouts, and an eaves course are also present, along with three brown brick chimney stacks.
Historical records indicate a building was present on this site on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1860. While it's possible the house is older, it is more probable that it was either substantially renovated or rebuilt around 1870, potentially as part of a terrace of dwellings or farm buildings. The windows’ 19th-century detailing supports this later date.
