Description
This is a substantial two-storey farmhouse, likely dating from the mid to later 19th century, situated at the end of a long lane with associated farm buildings nearby. The front elevation, facing east, features a fairly recent, off-centre gabled porch with a modern timber and glazed door incorporating a fanlight and sidelights. Modern timber windows flank the porch, and two PVC windows designed to resemble original sliding sash and case windows are positioned to the left, featuring simulated horizontal and vertical astragals between double glazing with top-hung upper openers. Simple surrounds define all windows on the main house. A similar window is on the right of the porch, with four smaller, matching windows on the first floor. The rear elevation exhibits a similar window arrangement, but with a single-storey gabled return projecting between the first and second ground floor windows, featuring a small fixed-light timber window in the gable. The north gable has a window mirroring the first-floor front window on its left side. The south gable has a similar window to the right on the first floor, with a modern-style two-pane timber window to the left on the ground floor. The south side of the return includes a timber door on the right and a small window with horizontal and vertical astragals to the left. The north side of the return has a small fixed-light window on the left and an older two-pane window on the right. The entire building is finished with a rough cast render. The main house and return have gabled, pitched roofs, covered with asbestos slates on the main house and Bangor blue slates on the return. There are four rendered chimney stacks on the main house and one on the gable of the return, and the building has PVC gutters and downspouts. The farm buildings to the south are of various ages.
A house is depicted on this site on the Ordnance Survey map of 1834, without the return or porch, showing a similar plan on the revised map of 1860. The return was likely added later in the 19th century, while the porch was constructed in the late 1960s.
