36-38 Ballywalter Road, Ballymacruise, Millisle, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2HS

This is a two-storey gabled block, originally consisting of two houses, likely built around 1900, and situated on the west side of Ballywalter Road, on the southern edge of Millisle. Number 38 has undergone significant alterations internally and externally in recent times.

The front, eastern facade features a central, single-storey flat-roofed porch. The entrance to Number 38 is on the south side of the porch, featuring a PVC door and a plain fanlight set within a doorway with a segmental arch. The entrance to Number 36 is on the north side and is similar, with a timber-panelled door and a label moulding above. Two windows are positioned on either side of the porch, each with segmental arch heads. A cill course runs along the entire front facade, serving as a base for both porch windows (one PVC framed for Number 38, the other with a modern timber frame for Number 36). A coping continues from the cill course as a first-floor cill course, accompanied by an additional cornice-like course that extends along the gables and front. To the left of the porch are two windows (appearing almost twinned) with PVC frames, set within openings with matching label mouldings. The first floor has two similar windows, but without the label mouldings. The remainder of the front facade of Number 36 mirrors the appearance of Number 38 but features modern timber window frames.

The south gable has a window on both the ground and first floors, echoing the front facade of Number 38. The north gable features a window on the ground and first floors, mirroring the front of Number 36, and incorporating PVC frames. Both houses share a large, central gabled return. The north side of the return (Number 36) includes two PVC windows on the first floor and a small, modern, flat-roofed ground-floor extension. Number 38 has a large, single-storey extension with PVC windows and a door attached to its side of the return. The rear of Number 36's return has a first-floor sash window and a large PVC kitchen window on the ground floor, while the rear of Number 38 is now blank. The facade of Number 36 is finished in plain render and painted, with eaves courses and a chamfered plinth. The facade of Number 38 is now primarily rough cast, with much of the label moulding having been removed.

The main roof is pitched with Bangor blue slates and clay 'saw tooth' ridge tiles, featuring a slight overhang at the verge. Rendered chimney stacks are present on each main gable and on the roof of the return, which also incorporates Bangor blue slates. A mix of cast iron and PVC rainwater goods are used on both houses. The buildings likely date from around 1900, with Number 38 having seen recent extensions.
