The Glebe House, Crumlin Road, Aldergrove, Crumlin, Co Antrim

The Glebe House, built between 1820 and 1839, served as a glebe house for St Catherine’s Church of Ireland Church in Killead. It was constructed in 1824 by Rev William George Macartney at a cost of £2,000, with £1,100 contributed by the Board of First Fruits and the remainder by Macartney himself. The house is currently used as a private residence. By 1970, the original Georgian glazing bars had been removed from the lower storey windows, and the fanlight above the front door was also missing. Historic records, including Ordnance Survey maps from 1832-3, Ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland, and Lewis’s Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, document the property and its context.
