Moneynick Post Office, 120 Moneynick Road, Randalstown, Antrim, Co Antrim, BT41 3HU

This is a formerly thatched cottage of vernacular design, now in a completely derelict condition. The single-storey cottage is built of rubble stone with traces of harling remaining. The main entrance faces north-east. There is one window to the left of the porch and two to the right; the porch has a smooth cement render and a modern flush timber door. The roof has collapsed, and the rear and sides of the building are heavily overgrown with vegetation. Originally, the cottage had thatched walls and whitened, harled walls, with two small, original sash windows flanking a small projecting porch with a lean-to slated roof on the front elevation. Gables rose to parapets, one of which was surmounted by a brick chimney, while another brick chimney was set asymmetrically on the roof. There was a small projection to the north and a corrugated iron annex at the rear. The building appears on Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1829 and 1832, situated on a bend in the road, which was straightened by 1858. The precise date of construction is unknown, but is estimated to be between 1820 and 1839. It was initially listed in 1974, but was considered beyond repair by 1994 and was delisted in 1995. The cottage sits in a rural location, set back from a road within its own plot which is overgrown with bushes and trees. It was formerly used as a thatched house and was most recently used as a house.
