Description
Two chest tombs and a headstone are located to the north and northeast of the Church of St Bartholomew. The tombs date from the 18th century. The first chest tomb is approximately 16 meters north of the north aisle and dates from the mid-18th century. It features a hipped top with cyma moulding along the edge and plinth, one raised-and-fielded panel on each side with worn inscriptions, and panelled pilasters on the long sides. The second chest tomb is situated at the angle of the chancel and north transept and dates from the early 18th century. It has a thick hipped top with cyma moulding to the edge and plinth, one recessed panel on each side, and fluted pilasters with a convex lower part on the long sides. The inscriptions are worn, but the name 'Fitchett' is still legible. The headstone is from the late 17th century and features a recessed inscription panel with an enriched foliate surround, along with two recessed semi-circular panels that have primitively carved angels at the heads.
