Description
There are two chest tombs located to the west of the Church of St Bartholomew in Crewkerne. The first tomb, positioned approximately 7 meters from the north-west corner of the church, dates from the early 19th century. It features a hipped top and slate panels with worn inscriptions on the long sides. The edge and plinth have cavetto moulding, and the ends are adorned with complex projecting pilasters that are moulded on three sides. The date 1826 is visible on this tomb.
The second tomb is located about 20 meters to the west of the church's west front and dates from the late 17th century. It also has a hipped top, but with a cyma-moulded edge. Each side has one raised-and-fielded panel, and the long sides are flanked by panelled pilasters. The long panels include head stops at the centers of the upper moulding.
