Description

Brooke House is an early 19th century house located on the west side of Lower Street in Rode. It is constructed of random jointed ashlar with bracketed eaves, and has a slate roof with coped verges and two ridge stacks – one of concrete imitating ashlar, and one of rendered brick. The symmetrical frontage has a design of three bays, featuring 12-pane sash windows with additional marginal lights. On the ground floor to the left is an early 19th century shopfront, incorporating a partially altered 13-pane window flanked by fluted pilasters with a fasciaboard and moulded cornice. The central doorway is set within a chamfered stone surround and has a 5-panelled door with a single glazed top panel, covered by a moulded slab hood on cut stone brackets, topped with a small low triangular pediment. A pent roofed outshut is located to the right.
