Description

Overbrook is a house dating from the 17th century, located on the west side of Lower Street in Rode. The house is constructed of limewashed rubble with dressed quoins, and has a double-Roman tile roof. Two 19th-century gabled dormers are present, along with two brick end ridge stacks. The two-storey house has five bays with 16-pane sash windows set in ogee-moulded stone surrounds. Originally, these windows were two-light stone-mullioned, but the centre ground-floor opening now has a wooden lintel blocking a former door opening. A plain band runs above the heads of the ground-floor openings, and a weathered string is above those of the first floor, with a plain eaves band. An early 19th-century outshut extends to the right, with a double-Roman tile roof. This contains a six-panelled door in a bead-moulded wooden surround, the top two panels glazed, alongside a 20th-century casement window to the ground floor and a 16-pane sash window to the first floor. The building possesses group value by virtue of its contribution to the street scene.
