Description

The former Police Station, now houses, was built in 1856 by Robert Shout of Yeovil. It is constructed of local stone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring Welsh slate roofs and stone and yellow brick chimney stacks. The building has an ‘H’ shape, with two storeys and 1+3+1 bays. It has a plinth, ashlar quoins, and an eaves course. The windows are two-light, with ovolo moulded mullions, shoulder arches to recesses, and elaborate worked heads. The lower windows have labels. The bays at either end project for two bays each, with doors set within segmental pointed arches. The central bay contains a wide segmental-pointed archway, above which "County Police" and the Somerset County Arms and motto are carved into the lintol, all set under a shaped label. The eaves course arches into a stepped false gable with a finial. While the interior has not been inspected, the exterior retains its original character despite conversion.
