Description
Crossway Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse located on Brookside Road in Combwich. It features colourwashed Flemish bond brickwork, coped verges, a tiled roof, and end brick stacks. The building has a symmetrical front with two storeys and three bays, showcasing 16-pane sash windows. The central door opening contains a six-panelled door with the top two panels glazed, and it is sheltered by an ornamental iron trellis porch with a metal tent canopy hood.
There are wings on either side of the main structure, with roofs that are hidden behind parapets and coping. Each wing has a blank frontage with a tall semi-circular headed recess that contains a series of pigeon holes arranged in a cross pattern. Each recess has a semi-circular head door opening leading to the outer side, with plank doors; the left door is obscured by a 20th-century pent roofed conservatory, which is not of special interest. The interior retains some features from the same period as the building.
The farmhouse is enclosed by a coursed and squared blue lias rubble wall with a coping that ramps up to each side. There are central recessed gate piers topped with pyramidal caps and 20th-century wooden gates.
