Description

The Hall is a country house built in the early 19th century for Joseph Woolen. It features an ashlar plinth, stucco exterior, a moulded cornice, and a parapet with plain coping, topped with a hipped slate roof. The house has a symmetrical frontage with three storeys and a layout of one bay, one bay, and one bay. There are plain pilasters between each bay and at each end, with the central bay slightly projecting forward. The windows are 12-pane sash windows set in moulded stone architraves, except for the second floor, which has 9-pane sash windows in similar surrounds. The glazing bars of each window are made of cast iron. The central door opening includes a four-panelled door with the top two panels glazed, a fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a stone doorcase featuring a triglyph frieze and a triangular pediment supported by paired Tuscan half-columns. Inside, the house has original plaster cornices in the left and right ground floor rooms, each with a fine late 18th-century fireplace; the right room also has dado panelling. There are window shutters and ornamental plasterwork in the hall, staircase well, and landing, along with an original staircase.
