Description
The wall enclosing the raised garden to the north and east of Lydeard House is a late 18th-century structure designed in a Hindu-Moorish style. It features a red sandstone random rubble plinth and a limestone wall with narrow arched openings that are about 1 metre high. The wall is supported by square piers with moulded caps, and the walls are swept and ramped up to these piers, showcasing pierced stonework. The east wall has a 20th-century addition of a flight of five steps, flanked by red sandstone random rubble dwarf walls that are swept back. The north wall has a receding design that breaks forward, creating a picturesque asymmetry.
