Description

The remains of the keep at Stowey Castle date back to the 11th century. They consist of coursed blue lias rubble that forms the foundation walls of a square keep, with some sections buried. The remains are situated on a conical earthwork that features a ditch approximately 250 meters in circumference. The walling is the only visible structural remnant of the castle and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 56).
